Cubs - The full story

Age

Cub Scouts are boys and girls age 8 - 10 ½ years of age, we are the second youngest section of the Scout movement.

Our place in the Scouting Family Tree

We belong to a group, which is usually made up of a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack and a Scout Troop. All sections meeting at different times.

When we meet

We meet for approximate. 1 hour – 1 ½ a week depending on which pack you decide to join. We have 23 packs in and around Blackpool and there is a pack to suit all, as they meet 1 night a week Monday – Friday somewhere across the district.

Our uniform

Cub Scouts wear a smart uniform made up of a sweatshirt, navy cargo trousers and a group neckerchief.

Your first night at Cubs

When joining, another Cub Scout will look after you usually someone you know already, perhaps from school, if you do not know any other Cub Scouts you will be given a buddy to look after you.

In your first four weeks at Cub Scouts you will join in all the fun activities.
The leaders will help you come to know the Cub pack ceremonies, get to know the leaders and members in the pack. Find out about activities available in the pack.

  • Know and understand the Cub Scout Promise and Motto
  • Learn about the cub names of the leaders and the story of the jungle book
  • Know the meaning of the badges that you will receive at the investiture ceremony.
  • The general knowledge of the family of Scouts, world-wide Scouting and the history of Scouting
  • The next stage is to become a Cub Scout by making the Promise.

The Pack Programme

The Cub Scout Leaders set weekly structured programmes.

Cub Pack meetings are always fun packed, fast moving evenings. At the same time developing skills for life.

The leaders encourage Cub Scouts to make suggestions for games and activities. Make time to share their news and views. They accept Cub Scouts as they are, celebrating their achievements and emerging talents, supporting their weaknesses and needs.

Days Out

Cub Scouts also take part in District Competitions, Days out and Fun Events with other Cub Scouts in Blackpool District.

They will enjoy pack outings and have visitors of interest come to the pack. Cub Scouts can take part in camps and experience a fun packed, exciting 48 hours with their pack friends taking part in climbing, archery and canoeing to name a few events that they can take part in. Some Cubs go away on Family Camps with their parents and the whole scouting group.

The Leaders

The leadership team is made up of a Cub Leader called Akela and Assistant Beaver Leaders (mainly Baloo, Caa) who are all fully trained. They also have Helpers and Young Leaders.

Many parents get involved and join the leadership team and go on to become leaders, helpers or occasional helpers. All leaders/parents involved with the pack will fill in a Criminal Record Check form before an offer of help can be accepted.

Why do it ?

For Fun, Friendship and Adventure in a safe friendly environment join Cub Scouts.
